James W. Heck, Ph.D.
James Heck received his Ph.D. in Organic Chemistry from Harvard University in 1976 after working four years in the laboratories of Professor Robert B. Woodward. He joined Merck Research Laboratories at the Rahway, NJ site in 1976, where he rose through the ranks to VP Medicinal Chemistry. He held this position from 1998-2006, guiding a research team of ~250 scientists. He retired from Merck at the end of 2006, and currently maintains a consulting practice with thirteen clients.
