Overview Drug discovery is the process by which compounds are found that have the desired activity against a therapeutic target. Since the early 1990’s, high throughput screening of diverse chemical compound libraries has been the usual initial step in drug discovery. In recent years, cell-based assay systems have become routine for primary compound screening. Since traditional cell production is a manual and time consuming process, the cell lines used for these screens were usually limited to those expressing a single gene, such as one subunit of a heteromeric target. Chromovert technology overcomes this fundamental obstacle to effective cell based screening. We are able to identify and isolate out of millions of analyzed cells the rare clone stably expressing multiple genes of interest which comprise the complete physiological target. This allows us to do high throughput screening with unparalleled results.
